“Momentum taught me more than planning ever could”
Lucy is a somatic work practitioner who uses bodywork and breathwork to help trauma survivors regulate their nervous system. Since launching her third-sector practice at 22, she has supported vulnerable individuals across UK schools, addiction centres, hospitals, and community spaces, collaborating with partners like Samaritans UK and the Welsh Government, while also engaging in opportunities to practise abroad.
The spark
I kept seeing people I loved being let down by public assistance programmes when it came to their nervous system, physical, and mental health — so I wanted to try and build something to bridge the gap. I felt somatic healing, which I was exposed to through Yoga, was an overlooked practice for the issues I observed and so I decided to pursue it as a solution.
Their first steps
I initially started reaching out to charities and other clients and ran free or low-cost wellness classes in their spaces just to practise teaching, with whatever resources I could get my hands on. I didn't wait until I felt ready to begin.
Being in the room showed me what people really needed and where my own gaps were, particularly around trauma-informed and somatic techniques, triggering me to go on and get further training. Along the way I leaned on other entrepreneurs doing similar work, trading advice and ideas.

Proudest moment & advice
When I was working with young teenagers at risk, one of the girls in the programme had been traumatised by sexual abuse. She picked up the techniques in our sessions well and learned to feel safe in her body again. She eventually reintegrated socially and went back to school after a long-term absence. I'm proud that the support we built played a part in her healing.
My advice: people are far more supportive and receptive than you'd expect, and they want to see you succeed. Communicate passionately, build connections, and trust that momentum will teach you more than planning ever could. Nobody expects you to have all the answers — they just want to help.
